Portway & Flavel Stoves Smoke Control Approved - As recommended by DEFRA!
Under the Clean Air Act 1993, local authorities are able to claim part of a town or city a smoke control area. This now means that within that allocated area it will be an offence to emit smoke from the chimney of a building from any fire, stove or boiler.
Portway and Flavel have a large range of stoves that are approved by DEFRA, meaning they are exempt from this as they are highly efficient, clean burning and produce very little smoke at all.
13 Portway stoves and 5 Flavel stoves are smoke controlled exempt and therefore allowed to be used in these designated smoke controlled area.
Care should also be taken when fitting these exepmt appliances - ensure flues and chimneys are installed correctly and routinely maintained.
BFM Europe have also taken the time and resources to gain HETAS Approval status for the majority of it's stoves. HETAS approval means the products have been tested against the marketing literture and instruction manuals by an independatn party to ensure they are safe and conform to the highest consumer standards.
For further information, please contact DEFRA regarding smoke control exepmtion, or HETAS regarding the manitainence and approval of your stove.
